Bush blocks on sand between Tewantin and the lake. Sandy tracks, soft shoulders and a lot of standing fuel, so placement and footings matter more here than most places.
Around Cooroibah containers mostly get used for acreage storage, workshops, boat and camping gear, and secure storage set back from the house. Whatever yours is for, the process is the same: one call, one delivered price, right truck for your access.

Cooroibah is bush acreage on sandy country between Tewantin and Lake Cooroibah, running up towards Cootharaba and the Noosa North Shore. The blocks are generally large, generally treed, and reached by long driveways off sealed road, which shapes what people use containers for.
Workshops and storage are the bulk of it — somewhere lockable for tools and the machinery a bush block needs, without a slab and a builder. The other big one is water gear. Boats, kayaks, fishing and camping kit for the river and the lake end up in containers because there is nowhere else on a treed block to keep them out of the weather and out of sight.
A loaded tilt-tray needs firm ground, a reasonably straight run and about three and a half metres of clear width to tip. Sand is good ground when it is compacted and poor ground when it is not, and the soft shoulder beside a well-used track is where a truck gets into trouble.
Tight bends between trees and low limbs are the other two. The truck is taller and far less forgiving than whatever you normally drive up there. Photos of the entry, the track and the drop spot get you a straight answer before you order — we would much rather tell you the truth about access from your photos than have a driver work it out at your gate.
This is the one that is different here. A container puts its whole weight on four corner castings, and on sand a small pad sinks. A container that settles unevenly stops closing its doors properly, which is the first thing you notice and the most annoying thing to put right.
Use something with real footprint under each corner — wide concrete pads, hardwood sleepers laid flat, or a proper footing if it is going somewhere permanent. Level it across the diagonal, not along one side, and look at it again after the first big wet, because sand shifts. A packer under one corner early is a far smaller job than a re-level later.
This is fire country and we will be straight about it: a container is not fire-proof and it is not a refuge. Steel does not burn but it conducts heat, so contents can be ruined by radiant heat without anything inside catching alight, and embers get in past the vents and the door seals.
What a container does give you, which a shed does not, is the choice of ground. Put it where there is clear, maintained space around it, out of long grass, away from the woodpile and not under limbs. Keep it clear of the driveway and out of the way between the house and the road. Fuel cans and gas bottles belong outside it, ventilated. The full version is in our guide to siting a container on a bushfire-prone block.
A 20ft is the usual answer — standard tilt-tray, roughly six metres of wall, and it fits down driveways a bigger unit will not. A 40ft needs a sidelifter and around thirty metres of straight working room, which most Cooroibah blocks cannot offer anywhere useful. A high cube adds about 300mm of headroom and earns it once lighting and shelving are in.
If a boat is going inside, measure the trailer width, the motor height and the overall length against the door opening before you order, and give it some airflow so gear is not sitting damp between trips.
Buy cargo-worthy for anything that has to stay dry — checked, and sold wind and watertight. Our as-is stock is cheaper and we are happy to sell it, but it is sold as seen and it is not sold watertight; it suits rough storage, not tools or anything you care about. Ask and we will send photos of your unit before it is delivered, serial number visible.
Hire is the right tool during a build or a clean-up, and hire units go out cargo-worthy, wind and watertight. Freight is quoted with the container, because it depends on where you are and what the access looks like. Noosa Shire covers this country, and a container used as storage is treated differently from one that is modified or lived in, so ring the council with your lot and plan number before you do anything permanent.
Something with real footprint under each corner — wide concrete pads or hardwood sleepers laid flat. Small pads sink into sand and an unlevel container stops closing its doors.
Usually, but soft shoulders on sand tracks, tight bends between trees and low limbs all need checking. Send photos of the track and the drop spot and we will confirm the truck first.
No. A container is not fire-proof and should never be used as a refuge. Heat conducts through the steel and embers get in past the vents and seals. What it does give you is the choice of where to put your storage — clear space around it is what matters.
Noosa Shire. Storage is treated differently from a modified or habitable container, and overlays on your lot matter, so ring them with your lot and plan number before anything permanent.
The sandy country north of Tewantin burns, and a shipping container is not a fire solution — we will not sell you one as though it were. What it is, used properly, is a lockable store you can place somewhere sensible. Here is how to choose that spot.
